The street has always held a particular fascination. The multitude of occupations a street has from social encounters, protests, used to enforce power or defiance the street is at the heart of our cities and peoples way of life. Having discovered Jane Jacobs and reading The Death and Life of Great American Cities I developed a greater understanding of how important streets are within our cities.

Greetings from Haussmanhattan looks to analysis the urban history and street formation of the cities of Manhattan and Paris to conjure a better understanding of the different proportions, uses and scales of each of these cities streets as to try and highlight the success and shortcomings of them.

This will be done in order to uncover what would happen if these cities were to join to create hybrid city streets. Not just from an urban planning perspective but from the perspective of the inhabitants of the city.
